Women Hair Loss Treatment

Treatment for hair loss in women using oral drugs that enter systemic system in our body give more side effect compare to topically drugs. The active ingredient (anti DHT –in this case) can prevent DHT from attaching with their follicles and hair loss is prevented. But it also causes another unwanted hair to grow (additional facial hair can lead to another problems). The drug can’t be told to work in specific area only when it enters the blood stream. It will affect the entire body wherever the blood flows. Therefore, topical hair treatments are another choices because they can enter the pores and give local effect.

Some women use 5% Minoxidil under dermatologist supervision when the 2% form doesn"t work for them, and the 5% solution give better result

Minoxidil is used to stimulate hair growth. It’s not an anti DHT or DHT inhibitor which prevent DHT binding to its receptor in hair follicles. Mioxidil can be bought without prescription.

Here are a few tips on Minoxidil usage. Apply Minoxidil when the scalp is completely dry. After applying it, wait until at least 2 hours before shampooing. At last, let Minoxidil be absorbed trough the pore and dried naturally without hair dryer.

Spironolactone/Aldactone.Spironolactone is a diuretic drug, mostly used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and edema. The mechanism of spironolactone as an antiandrogen are slowing down the androgen production in the adrenal glands & ovary, and also prevent DHT binding with the receptor in hair follicles.

Spironolactone is the most famous and highly recommended oral anti androgen for women. You can buy it under dermatologist prescription in a recommended dose of 100-200mg/day.

Cimetidine / Tagamet.Cimetidine is a drug for gastrointestinal ulcer (it's an anti histamine drug). Cimetidine also has anti androgenic effect and can block DHT from binding the receptor. Recommended daily dose for cimetidine is 300mg orally 5 times a day.

Estrogen/Progesteron. It’s a hormone replacement therapy for menopause women.

Oral contraceptives. Only low androgen birth control pills should be used to treat hair loss. High androgen birth control pills will trigger hair loss.

Discuss with your doctor about the using of oral contraceptive (to prevent contraception is a different matter with treat hair loss). Contraceptive pills have many hormonal formulations and your doctor can pick the right one for you.

Nizoral/Ketoconazole. Ketoconazole is an anti fungi agent and also has anti androgen effect. Nizoral 1% shampoo is available in over-the-counter. The 2% version, which is, may be mush more effective should be bought under prescription.

Propecia/Proscar.Propecia contains finastride that can inhibit enzyme in hair follicles. First Propecia was known to treat prostate. It works quiet well to prevent hair loss and triggering re-growth.

Cautions: pregnant women must not take propecia because the risk of birth defects in male fetus.

Side effect in erective and libido difficulties in men has been detected.

For YOU who seek less side effect, choose topical treatment. You dont have to enter some thing in your body, just apply in your scalp. It works for me. I prefer hair tonic or serums and my hair is still continue growing.
